Press Release
February 17, 2011
TIPTON, IN – McCreary Concrete Products, Inc., of Rushville announced today it has acquired the assets of Tipton Precast, located in Northgate Industrial Park, and will re-open the facility. Eleven jobs are expected to be created by 2014. The Tipton Precast operations were shut down in 2009 in the early part of the housing and land development recession. The assets include land, improvements and some important production equipment.
The transaction was facilitated by the Tipton County Economic Development Foundation which granted McCreary Concrete an option on approximately six acres of bare ground adjoining a portion of the acquired property. McCreary had approached the TCEDF with a request for an option on ground before making a determination to purchase the Tipton Precast site. The Precast is located in Northgate Industrial Park, an economic development project supported by the city and county of Tipton and developed during the 2004 to 2006 period.
McCreary, founded in 1945, manufactures commercial sanitary and storm structures, precast tanks and utility vaults among other concrete products for municipal, residential and commercial use. Many of these products will be manufactured at the Tipton site once start-up takes place. The company employs 12 associates in Rushville and 8 its Indianapolis facility.
According to David C. Sweet, Sales and Marketing Manager, “McCreary Concrete Products, Inc. has proven its commitment to the Tipton community by purchasing and re-opening the facility. We are proud to have chosen the Tipton area and look forward to working closely with as many business owners as possible by purchasing materials and supplies locally. Also, the expansion of McCreary Products, Inc. is a big plus for Tipton, as it is gaining an established business. The acquisition, with its proximity to rail transportation as well as good transportation arteries will allow us to expand our area of service throughout northern Indiana and into neighboring states while maintaining our current customer base. We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Tipton and its residents and are proud to call Tipton our new home.”
Tipton County Economic Development Foundation chairwoman, Jan Smith, stated that the option to McCreary met the TCEDF goal of accommodating reasonable requests from prospective businesses in order to encourage the development and retention of tax base and jobs. Smith said, “We are pleased to have partnered with McCreary Products in meeting the growth needs of both their company and of the city and county of Tipton.”
